It's been a while...

Hiya,

So - after a fair bit of prompting i've updated my blog. (It'll happen more frequently from now on!)...

What's been happening? lots.

Our youth group is wonderful and is a real blessing to be a part of. We've got a bunch of great leaders, and a great group of kids that come to Toms. Check out http://www.st-thomas.org.au/toms for more info on what we do!

Scripture at North Sydney Boys is excellent too. There's nothing like seeing your old deputy principal and former teachers and chatting about your work at your old school! It's changed a bit, but the kids are still as smart (and cheeky!) and keen to learn. I'm hoping that they'll really start to ask the big questions of life this year - they're currently grappling with 'why is Jesus important' whilst we go through the book of Mark this year....

Leading a young adults bible study (RETRO) is good too. There's about 9 of us in the group and we too are going through the book of Mark. It's quite a challenging thing to prepare bible studies week in, week out - but learning together and seeing people understand things is incredible! Also, just having good honest, open and Godly fellowship with each other is good too. I think that our group is keen to care and love one another, and so this is one thing i'm really looking forward to this year...

The Bible study at the Australian Catholic Uni is funnily enough, looking at the book of Mark (yes, i'm having a slight inferiority complex here) too and we kicked off last week. should be a top group...

.... BUT .... one of the best things here is backyard cricket at church and looking for practical joking opportunities.

stay tuned for more soon!

"Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel? For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!" (Ezekiel 18:30-32)

And it all begins...

... And I'm ready for another holiday!  I don't know where it's a lack of sleep (eg: planning and executing a mate's marriage proposal til all hours of the night) or lack of vegetables (this cooking thing is still taking me a while!), but after re-arranging the the church ministry centre today, I'm knackered and am ready for another holiday!

We got to work (30 degree day) and moved desks, tables, photocopiers and even a safe to accomodate all the staffing changes at St Thomas'. Our room is great, and with the inclusion of the blow-up crocodile, I think it's ready for 5 fellas to cause havoc.  Basic stuff today covering procedures, passwords and preparing for a prayer meeting (how's that for alliteration!), we're pretty much ready to roll.

I'm a bit nervous about the amount of responsibilities I'm taking on as it seems to be a lot: Toms youth group, bible study at the Australia Catholic Uni (no, I won't be praying to Mary!), Scripture at North Sydney Boys, leading a Retro bible study later this year and other sutff.  It's a fair whack of ministries to be involved in and I'm afraid of spreading myself too thin.  I think Phillipians 3:6-7 is going to my verse for the year...

So, to all my MTS supporters, friends and family - I hope this greets you well.  I'll be adding more updates regularly herein.

In Him,
Mark

Toms leaders meeting!

... We are blessed with some amazing leaders in the Toms ministry! Beth, Jackie, Mooky, Tanya, Sam and Mark North came over for lunch today and we had a great meeting to discuss the new look Toms youth group and our new strategy for Sunday mornings: Boost. Toms vision is "Planted in Him, Growing in Him, Fruitful for Him" and we are focused on being prayerfully dependant this year... It'll be a cracker of a year and I'm glad we've got such passionate leaders!

It was a knock-out!

Woah, what a day - we had about 30 people playing egg & spoon races, wheel barrow races, egg throwing comps and sack racing! We even want it to be instituted as a monthly event!

Anyhoo, that aside and absolutely tired, it's now time to head out for coffee with Sam to think about 'Boost!', our new component of our youth group.  Good times!

... until next time ....

.... God created the heavens and the earth.

.... and in the beginning of my foray into ministry I created a blog!

pretty lame in comparison eh?

anyway, as you probably know, i'm starting a thing called MTS this year. Ministry Training Strategy. My Timid Start. Many Two Shot espressos. Or something.

I left Sensis almost a month ago (in December) and have been taking it easy since then. Sort of. Beach Mission 'til Jan 6, moving out to Kirribilli straight after. Going away to KYLC for a week in Jan. And some relaxing in between. It's been good for me since I haven't really had a holiday in a year and a half - and I don't think i'll be getting anything too luxiurious for a while to come!

Anyhoo - i'll keep this thing updated with all the in's and out's of this year and how everything goes. Should be interesting... for me. But then, hopefully it'll be kinda interesting to hear about all my disasters and cool moments as they come. Yeah, and i'm so tech-saavy that i'll even upload photos sometimes!

Right.

I'm having a park-warming with the new version of 'It's a Knock-Out' today, so i must be off.

Cheers,
Mark
